How About Palestine's Right to Exist

In a state established on a founding myth that the native Palestinian population left of their own accord, rather than that they were ethnically cleansed- and in one that seeks its legitimacy through a host of other lies, deception becomes a political way of life. Israel's Ambassador to Kenya, Mr Emmanuel Seri, demonstrated this in his article on January 12.

A relative calm has followed Israel's month-long pounding of Lebanon since last year, a calm in which Israelis may no longer be dying but the Lebanese most assuredly are as explosions of US-made cluster bombs greet the south's returning refugees, and the residents of Gaza perish by the dozens each week.

Many of Israel's war lies have already been deeply implanted in Western consciousness by the media:

-That Hezbollah "started" the war by capturing two Israeli soldiers rather than that Israel maintained a hostile and provocative posture for the previous six years by daily sending in its warplanes and spy drones into Lebanese airspace;

-That Hezbollah's launching of rockets into Israel was an act of aggression, even though they were fired after, and in response to, Israel's massive bombing of civilian areas in Lebanon;

-That Hezbollah, unlike Israel, used the local civilian population as human shields, even though Israel's continual and comprehensive aerial spying on south Lebanon produced almost no evidence of this;

-That Hezbollah, not Israel, targeted civilians, despite a death toll that suggests the exact opposite;

And that Hezbollah's arming by Iran is entirely illegitimate, even though the weapons were used to defend Lebanon from a long-prepared Israeli attack, while Israel has an absolute right to receive its arsenal from the US.

The Guardian Unlimited, the online version of the London based newspaper, in an article entitled "EU poll sees Israel as peace threat," reported:

"A European Commission opinion poll found 60% of Europeans see Israel as the greatest threat to world peace."

The poll surveyed 7,500 people in 15 EU countries who said Israel was a bigger threat to world peace than Iran, North Korea and the United States."

If Israel was not a security threat to the world, if Israel was doing everything right as the ambassador was trying to make us believe, why is it that the world can see through the onslaught of bias propaganda?

Why does the world no longer believe in the myth that Israel is only defending itself? It is for the following reasons.

The occupation is illegal under international law. Under UN Resolution 242, Israel is required to withdraw from all the territories occupied in 1967, including East Jerusalem.

The UN has stated time and time again that the only way to end the violence is to end the occupation.

Secondly, the occupation is killing children and innocent civilians.

Israelis possess overwhelming military superiority over Palestinians.

The Palestinians have used violent means to resist the occupation, but that does not take away from the fact that Israeli soldiers are shooting individuals with missiles, using American made F-16s and Apache helicopters.

Tanks roll into refugee camps, supposedly to root out terrorists. But too many of these so-called terrorists are small children.

The Israeli government demolishes homes, uproots crops, and confiscates land.

< uprooted. trees fruit and olive 34,606 confiscated land of acres 291 demolished, been have homes 580 than more 2000, October Since>

In East Jerusalem, Palestinian homes are demolished and land confiscated in order to ensure Jews have a majority.
