Nine-month exports to Arab countries up 13%

Exports to Arab
countries rose 13% in January-September 2003, to $88 million, after
falling in 2002. Exports to Jordan rose 24%, while exports to Egypt fell
3% in January-September, according to an Israel Export Institute
analysis of trade with Arab countries.
Export and
International Cooperation Institute director Yechiel Assia believes that
expanded traded with Jordan was responsible for the increase, even
though there was no improvement in the diplomatic and security climate.
Exports to Jordan
rose 24% to $60 million. Most exports comprised textile products
clothing and leather, wood and furniture, and paper and printing. There
were 480 exporters to Jordan last year.
Exports to Egypt
fell 3% to $20 million, mostly chemicals and refined oil products. There
were 111 exporters to Egypt last year.
Exports to the
Gulf states fell 43% in this period to $2 million. Most exports
comprised machinery and equipment, and office equipment and computers.
Exports to Morocco
rose 6% to $4 million, mostly plastic and rubber products, and chemicals
and refined oil products. Exports to Tunisia fell 68% to $200,000,
mostly chemicals and refined oil products.
