Yediot Aharonot: Israel, Jordan Hold Joint Quake Drill

Baheth Net, 10 Nov 2009

The Israeli and Jordanian armed forces have held a joint earthquake response drill, Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot reported on Tuesday.

The exercise is held annually but this was the first year that the press has been allowed to report on it, the daily said.

The drill was held on Monday near the Israeli city of Beit Shean in the Jordan valley. It simulated a scenario in which an earthquake hits the Zionist entity which requests help from neighboring Jordan.

Dozens of troops from each side took part in the exercise, which also involved firefighters and canine units. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the report.

Parts of occupied Palestine and Jordan lie on the Syria-Africa faultline, one of the most sensitive seismology zones in the world. Jordan in 1994 became the second Arab country after Egypt to sign a peace treaty with Israel.
